Glossary


Address:
                 ⤷A location in processor memory.

Baud Rate:
                      ⤷A unit of data transmission speed equal to the number of characters(numbers, symbols, letters) per seconds.

Duplex:
                 ⤷A means of two-way data communication.

Instruction:
                       ⤷A command or order that causes a PLC to perform certain operation.

Jogging:
                 ⤷The momentary operation of a motor to test rotation or to cause small movement of the driven equipment.
 
Latch:
              ⤷A device that continue to store the state of the input signal after a signal is removed. The input state is stored until the latch is reset.
Nesting:
                 ⤷A programming technique that has a branch within a branch.

Node:
             ⤷A common connection point between two or more contacts or element in a circuit.

Protocol:
                    ⤷A defined means of establishing criteria for receiving & transmitting data through communication channel.

Register:
                   ⤷A word or group of words used to store numerical values.

Holding Register:
                                 ⤷A register or file that hold a value or values for comparison or for use in user program.

Surge:
               ⤷A transient variation in a current or voltage at a point in the circuit.

 ➥I/O Scan time:
                             ⤷The time required for the PLC monitor all inputs, read the user program And control all outputs. The I/O scan repeats continuously.
